Austin Peralta is a musician and composer in Los Angeles who gained notoriety in the jazz world after self-producing his first indie CD entitled “Inta’ Out”. When he was 14 years old, Austin was signed by Sony/Village Records and recorded his debut album, “Maiden Voyage”, with Ron Carter on bass and Billy Kilson on drums at Avatar Studios in New York City in September of 2005. He toured Japan to promote the release and was invited again to perform at the Tokyo Forum for the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2006, where he performed a piano quartet with Chick Corea, Hank Jones and Hiromi Uehara. Austin then recorded his second CD, “Mantra,” with Buster Williams on bass, Steve Nelson on vibes, and Marcus Strickland on sax. In addition to the piano, Austin is proficient in the acoustic bass, soprano and alto saxophones, flutes, piccolo, and drums. He avidly composes original film scores for television and film.

Now at the age of 20, he has already played in festivals like The Playboy Jazz Festival (US), The Jazz Baltica Festival (Germany), The Tokyo Jazz Festival (Japan), The Ginza Jazz Festival (Japan), and the Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia). He has also worked with The Cinematic Orchestra, Flying Lotus, Shafiq Husayn, Adam Rudolph’s Go: Organic Orchestra, Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra, & Don Friedman, among many others.

His third album and first release in the United States, a self-produced project “Endless Planets”, will be released through the Flying lotus Brainfeeder imprint in the fall of 2010. Collaborators for this project include Ben Wendel, The Cinematic Orchestra, Dr. Strangeloop, Zach Harmon, among others.

This month, Austin is my guest with an exclusive mix, keep your eyes wide open to his music and if you can get the chance to see him playing live, don’t hesitate to go.

In addition to the piano, Austin is proficient in the acoustic bass, soprano and alto saxophones, flutes, piccolo, and drums. He avidly composes original film scores for television and film. Now at the age of 20, he has already played in festivals like The Playboy Jazz Festival (US), The Jazz Baltica Festival (Germany), The Tokyo Jazz Festival (Japan), The Ginza Jazz Festival (Japan), and the Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia). He has also worked with The Cinematic Orchestra, Flying Lotus, Shafiq Husayn, Adam Rudolph’s Go: Organic Orchestra, Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra, & Don Friedman, among many others. His third album and first release in the United States, a self-produced project “Endless Planets”, will be released through the Flying lotus Brainfeeder imprint in the fall of 2010. Collaborators for this project include Ben Wendel, The Cinematic Orchestra, Dr. Strangeloop, Zach Harmon, among others.
