THE MUSICAL WORLDS OF XOLAIR

This time, from Toronto, Canada, we have Basic Soul Unit. He is a DJ, producer, and musician who has based his music on the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit. There is the influence of jazz, Latin, and Brazilian music, combining insistent tracky vibes with soul-moving synthline abstraction in a studied Larry Heard style leading up to an immense hypnotic climax, but always funky.

His work has been pressed by labels such as: Versatile Records, Mule Electronic, Philpot, Do Right! Music, New Kanada, Fabric 38 (Comp), MATHEMATICS. I’d like to mention that this last label, MATHEMATICS, has left people with a lot to talk about. In 2009, he released the Basic Necessity EP (12", EP) , Dank (12"), and Panorama Bar 02 | Part I (12”). And in 2010, get ready for a Jacob Korn Remix released through Dolly , which is a new label by Steffi from Panorama Bar. You may also expect a Remix in the Hivern Discs label from Barcelona, plus an upcoming EP on LOTD. And if you happen to be in in Europe, you may be able to catch him live in March.
